Guess who just finished reading Deathly Hallows?
I got the book last night/this morning at the Bay and Bloor release party, with a friend of mine. For those of you who don't live in Toronto (which is probably all of you...), the Indigo Books on Bay and Bloor arranged for all of Bay st. to be shut down and transformed into a "Diagon Alley". It was mostly kids stuff, like inflatable castles and slides, which was pretty cool. I think there was also an animal demonstration of some kind. I didn't see much of the outdoor festivities, unfortunately. Mainly because fighting your way outside was getting dangerous and because I got a sweet spot that I was reluctant to give up.
I was dressed in Hufflepuff colours. Most everyone else was either a) Gryffindor (usually the kids, 90% of whom were adorable) or b) Slytherin. The Slytherin slut look was popular. My friend and I smuggled in a small bottle of Malibu and took a shot every time we spotted one. I was never actually drunk, but I was fairly tipsy at one point.
Anyway, enough about that.
The Good
The Bad
The Ugly
The Awesome
There's more but I can't think of any.
God, I knew Snape was going to die. I've been calling for his death since the fourth book, but I still wasn't prepared for it. I didn't actually start crying until "The Prince's Tale". And then I... didn't stop for a while. Kind of sad, really. Well, I'm an old softy.
You know, I haven't reread any of the books in years. I don't think I've ever reread the sixth book at all. I think I'm going to read the whole series again, though. Just for kicks, and to see if I can pick up on any hints I missed.

The Good
- Everything gets tied together.
- Virtually everyone who I predicted would die, died.
- D-Dore's "flash of triumph" or whatevs from the end of the fourth book is explained at last!
- D-Dore turns out to be a much more interesting character than I originally thought.
The Bad
- I really didn't care that Tonks and Remus died. I feel a little bad, but it's true.
- Why did Fred die? That just seemed unnecessary. Poor George.
- Hedwig :(
- I keep calling Dumbledore "D-Dore". It's a complusion, I couldn't stop if I wanted to! Which I don't!
The Ugly
- The epilogue. Well, not exactly. I was rolling my eyes through most of it, until he mentioned Albus' middle name. My heart of stone then melted. :(
- The entire "we're traveling on the run across the UK with no hope or direction whoo" section was hard to read. I was already worrying about something real life related, and the mood of this whole part just sort of made it worse.
- Umbridge. I was sort of hoping we would find out if she died or something but we didn't. I really hope she did.
The Awesome
- Snape. Just... Snape. Forever and always. ♥
- Also, Luna and Neville.
- I'm not actually a shipper, but I was pretty relieved when Hermione finally kissed Ron. I was basically just sick of their never-ending UST.
- Neville's gran was great, too.
- Mrs. Weasley's smack-down.
- ETA McGonagal's "CHARGE!" with the desks :DDDDD

Date: 2007-10-17 06:09 am (UTC)I know this post is months old, not sure how I wound up here, actually. Just cruising round LJ, I guess. Have just re-read Deathly Hallows, and I agree with everything you've said here, except Remus + Tonks. That made me really sad (But Fred was sadder, you're right). The thing that gets me the most is that no one else seemed to be as sad about Hedwig as I was. :( Poor Hedwig. Now that was unnecessary.
(PS. Am holding out for more Badger Brigade... ^_^)

Date: 2007-10-18 01:15 am (UTC)It was! I'm always sad when pets die. It's just a thing I have.
P.S. Continue holding out! I'm not participating in NaNo this year, so I'll have more time to work on this.
