I've got to post this as two comments coz it's too long, and I don't know how to screen it...
It's three interwoven stories - a woman called Katie stuck in a breeding program, Andy/Theo, and an as yet unnamed Red Haired Pirate Girl (RHPG for short)
It's all centered around my two guys who love each other and die, and its three diffrent viewpoints into their lives. Katie is a best friend and the mother of the wee kid - I haven't worked out the fine details of the program, but its something that women get drafted into at 16, and then stay there until they become pregnant, when they leave, and live with the man that was chosen to impregnate them. As a couple, they recive goverment grants, healthcare, education for the child, etc. She is trying to escape this hellish breeding program... then somehow... something happens to her? She gets pregnant and gets out, but she doesn't have the father supporting her - some sort of scandal that the big brother-esque goverment want covered up, as it goes against her doctrine. Perhaps she was raped by a high level official? But that could be far too angsty, I think. Or maybe the guy who gets her pregnant is already supporting another woman... Whatever it is, shes alone, and so slips through the net of support and money and healthcare that other women have. The goverment are keen to cover her up, and she gets quite sick. She stays with theo and andy - She's been friends with the boys for a very long time, and knows that they're both gay, and in love with each other, although they haven't gotten around to sorting out their feelings to one another. She gives birth to the kid, and then passes away quite soon after. She gives us the backstory, and her view on the boys as she knew them when they were coming to terms with their sexuality.
Andy and Theo's story picks up quite soon after katies leaves off - Because of the way her will was structured, they were allowed to live together in private as two guys - which was previousley forbidden. However, it takes them over a year and a half to work out the paperwork and forms and speak to the right officials, during which time they have to live in public quarters. eventually, they go to claim the kid on from a distant relative the kid had been shoved with while the guys got through the admin. They're still trying to sort out their feelings to one another, but the arrival of the kid (who is, by the way, as yet nameless) is like a catalyst, and we have 4 years of happiness and slashiness. Their story is told through their perspectives. They get arrested and dragged away, interrogated for a bit, then die together - I'm thinking they're hung.
